The Birding Center
The Port Aransas Garden Club is working with the City of Port Aransas to improve the landscaping at the Leona Belle Turnbull Birding Center. In 2021 PAGC was awarded a grant from the Texas Native Plant Society to establish a Monarch Way Station.
School Gardens
The raised beds are planted with vegetables, including squash, okra, peas, carrots, onions, watermelon, potatoes and pumpkin; Herbs such as cilantro, mint, parsley, chives, rosemary, and Oreganoo; and wildflowers planted from seeds.

The children plant, pull weeds, water and learn to harvest by pinching or digging up.
Gardening is not all work and no play. The children and Garden Club volunteers play plant charades, review worksheets and learn various parts of the plant.
The Port Aransas Garden Club volunteers meet every Friday with 6 to 8 kindergarteners and first graders to prepare soil in the raised plant beds. Every child helps with preparing the soil, planting seeds and live plants.
