Farley Boat Planters can be seen all around Port Aransas. For the fourth year, the Port Aransas Garden Club will hold its annual Farley Boat Lighting Contest. Last year the Farley Boat Lighting Contest raised $3000 for the EMS Toy Round Up giving more Port A children a chance for a happy Christmas. The Garden Club is partnering with the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and Port Aransas Parks and Recreation to hold this contest. It consists of three categories being judged by independent judges and the People’s Choice with 1st and 2nd prizes of $100 and $50 in all categories. Any Farley Boat Lighting Contest entrant is eligible to be awarded both the People’s Choice Award and their specific judged category award.
Categories include Residential, Business/ Merchant, and Condo/RV/Club/Church. The People’s Choice is awarded via our community at-large voting, and all proceeds go to the EMS Toy Round Up. The Chamber is sponsoring the awards for the People’s Choice winners. Deadline for your entry form and photo is November 29. A photographer will be around and snap a picture for our Farley Boat Lighting Contest Display Board, a virtual Facebook tour and People's Choice Award voting on Facebook and on our website through Square. Any Merchants, Businesses, Residents, Clubs, RVs, Condos and Churches may sign up. Fill out the Farley Boat Lighting Contest Entry Form and email it to winkelmann1023@hotmail.com. Forms are available by printing them from this website or you can pick-up a form at the Chamber, Parks and Recreation or the South Jetty offices. Email the form back or drop filled out forms at any of the above locations to get enrolled and become part of an exciting holiday community experience. The entry form is also online at portaransas.org and cityofportaransas.org. No entry fee required. Rules and judging criteria are printed on the entry form. If you don’t own or have access to a boat, but would like to join the competition, city Farley Boat Planters are available for decorating in this contest. Contact Kristie Stevens 361-749-4158 or kstevens@cityofportaransas.org to sign up for one. So, sign up, make it a neighborhood project, decorate one of the city’s or one belonging to someone unable to decorate. The contest is limited to the first 40 boats that register so enter early.
A tour map will be available for everyone to use to view the boats. Voting will start on December 1 online and at various places around town. Votes are $1 each, 6 for $5 or 15 for $10.
